Every season, fans cheer mountain biking’s elite as they ride Maxxis’ Team Spec editions of the Aspen and all-new Aspen ST to championships. These 170-TPI-casing versions are normally available exclusively to Maxxis’ top sponsored riders and teams, but this year, for a limited time only, every rider can purchase these same premium tires!

The Aspen ST (or Fastpen, as it’s sometimes known) is a new ultra-low-profile XC tire based on the Aspen. Eagle-eyed race fans may recognize the Aspen ST tread pattern from spy shots, but it’s never been publicly available until now. Designed to be even faster than its predecessor, the Aspen ST is sure to catapult you to the podium, just like it helped Nino Schurter to countless World Cup wins. In addition, the 120-TPI version of the Aspen ST will soon be available for purchase as a permanent addition to our lineup of cross-country tires. The Team Spec Aspen and both versions of the Aspen ST will be available in 29×2.40 and 29×2.25 options.

The Team Spec Aspen and Aspen ST debut a much lighter and faster 170-TPI casing and feature an exclusive Team Spec hot patch. Because these tires are designed to be used solely in racing conditions and feature pro-level speed and rolling resistance, they aren’t suitable for the average weekend ride. The team spec Aspen and Aspen ST will not be as durable as the versions normally available for purchase.

ASPEN ST

The Aspen ST is an ultra-low-profile race tire designed primarily for short track XC use. Sometimes referred to as the “Fastpen,” this tire is sure to give any racer an edge in dry conditions.

Tubeless Ready (TR)

MAXXSPEED

The new MaxxSpeed (2023) is our top-shelf rubber compound for XC racing. It’s a high-silica content compound which reduces rolling resistance while also enhancing wet traction. Compared to the previous 3C MaxxSpeed, the new compound has approximately 25% less rolling resistance in a lab setting (using the same tread pattern, construction, and tire pressure). In a real world setting, our testing shows the new compound can save up to a minute over the course of a 90-minute race.

EXO

EXO is a cut- and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of many Maxxis mountain bike and gravel tires. This densely woven fabric is lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for enhanced durability for gravel, XC, and light-duty trail riding.

TUBELESS READY

Tubeless ready tires provide the rider with many benefits: the ability to run lower air pressures, which improves traction; lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tire; and less chance of flatting because there is no tube. Tubeless ready tires are denoted by the letters “TR” on the sidewall.

Tubeless ready tires must be mounted to tubeless compatible rims and require the use of a liquid sealant to maintain pressure. Liquid sealants have the added benefit of sealing small punctures. Be sure to check your sealant regularly and refresh as needed as it will dry out over time.

Liquid sealants should only be used in the following types of tires: tubeless road, tubular, and tubeless ready. The use of liquid sealants in any other Maxxis tire will void the warranty.
